At this point, this is all we know:

Good, reasonable and kind king Vikramaditya had frequent discussions and debates in his court. A conversation over which planet was the greatest was overheard by him once. One by one, the representatives of each planet rose to speak well of their home world, declaring it to be the finest of them all. The first to speak was Surya, a representation of the Sun. His address was followed by testimony from each of these planets: the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. During this time, a representative of Rahu speaks out.

In the words of a representative for Rahu, the two bad planets Rahu and Ketu are. According to him, these are the North and South nodes. At the moment of their conception, they were Asuras. Rahu and Ketu are the adversaries of Surya (the Sun) and Chandra (the moon) (the Moon). When the Sun and Moon approach the nodes, they are overcome with a sense of dread. There is no doubt in their minds that the nodes will not be kind to them. Because the nodes obstruct the Sun and Moon, they are perturbed. Afflicted by Rahu and afflicted by Ketu are the Sun and Moon. It’s possible for the nodes to block out the Sun and the Moon, but they may also cast a shadow over people’s life. Those vicious nodes cause a lot of pain.

They may, however, be satisfied and content. Regular prayer and sacrifices may appease Rahu and Ketu. It’s said that when Rahu is happy, he bestows health, mercy, and a lack of fear of snakes to the person he’s delighted. Those blessed by Ketu’s favour are able to gain spiritual insight.

Rahu and Ketu’s Past Lives According to Shani Mahatmya

Once, Swarbhanu, Rahu, and the other planets were all part of the same entity. He was the son of Viprachitti Daanav and his wife, Sinhikaa. Sinhikka was the sister of Hiranyakashyap. Preeminently, Hiranyakashyap is recognised as Prahlad’s paternal grandfather. In this Asura, Rahu represents its severed head, while Ketu is its trunk. Rahu frightens people with his demeanour. In the woods, he has a dark skin and a smoky voice. Ketu is a terrifying world. A flame and a sword are Ketu’s weapons of choice, while Rahu wears the half-moon on his head. Aquarius’ ruler Rahu rules over minerals such as lead and agate, while Ketu rules over gemstones such as turquoise and the earth. Rahu is the Asuras’ minister, while Ketu is the Asuras’ head.

As a result of the Sage Durvasa’s curse, the Devas were doomed to a life of poverty and misery for all eternity. Because of this, the Asuras gained command of the universe and ruled it. Lord Vishnu was consulted by the Devas, who were worried about the situation. He warned them that their strength had waned and that they would be unable to defeat the Asuras. The advice he gave them was to be calm and diplomatic. For the nectar of immortality, Amrit, Lord Vishnu directed them to churn the Ocean of Milk, or Ksheer Sagar. The only ones who could eat it were the Devas, not the Asuras, as he had promised them.

Samudra Manthan: The Churning of the Ocean

There were two lines established by the Devas and Asuras, with the Asuras lining up on one side and the Devas lining on the other. Mohini gave each of the Devas the Amrit one by one. Consequently, Swarbhanu, an Asura masquerading as a Deva, sat in the Deva line. A renowned astrologer in India quickly recognised Swarbhanu as an outsider when Mohini gave him Amrit and raised the alarm. Because of this, the Sun and Moon have a hard time dealing with the nodes.

Using his Sudarshan Chakra, Lord Vishnu swiftly severed the head of Swarbhanu. However, the Asura had already stolen the Amrit from him, so he didn’t die. To avoid this, he divided in half. A new name was given to the head, Rahu, and the trunk, Ketu. Garlic was formed when Rahu’s blood fell to the earth. In this way, garlic has a lot of Amrit-like characteristics, but it also has a tendency to fog the mind like Rahu. Lord Brahma bestowed planet status to Rahu and Ketu. Rahu and Ketu’s envoy knelt in awe before the two shadow planets, who torment people by distorting their minds, according to the top astrologer in India
